Geneva 2009: Alfa Romeo MiTo GTA Concept

The GTA edition of Alfa's adorable Mito has broken cover ahead ofGeneva, and we've got to say it is a fantastic little Mini-fighter that we hope makes it over here as part of the Chrysler/Fiat deal. The coolest visual addition has to be the two center exhaust exits in the rear diffuser. They look like those of a VW R32, only bigger and cooler. And the dramatic flaring of the rear fenders--fantastic.

The MiTo GTA is the mini hot-hatch edition of the Ford Fiesta-rivalling Alfa MiTo supermini, and packs a 1.8-litre turbocharged engine. And the MiTo’s trump card is its prodigious 240bhp power output which outguns cars from the class above, including the Honda Civic Type-R, Ford Focus ST, Volkswagen Golf GTi and Vauxhall Astra VXR.

Alfa’s engineers have managed this mighty power output by adding direct injection, variable valve timing, advanced electronic management and, of course, a whacking great turbo, high-performance edition of Alfa's latest compact, featuring carbon-fiber body parts and extensive application of aluminum under the skin in such areas as brakes and suspension.

The car is 20mm lower than a standard MiTo too. While there’s clever active damping technology which keeps the car flat under acceleration as well as in the corners, but doesn’t compromise the ride.
